Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Club Volleyball?
Club volleyball is a competitive training program designed to help athletes improve their skills, compete at a higher level, and prepare for future opportunities both on and off the court.
The club season typically begins in November and runs through the spring, with select teams extending into the summer for additional tournaments or national events.
St. Landry Volleyball Club (SLVC) competes under USA Volleyball (USAV) through the Bayou Region Volleyball Association (BRVA). Every athlete must have an active USAV membership before participating in practices or tournaments.
We offer programs for athletes 10U–18U, along with developmental clinics and camps throughout the year for younger players.
Benefits of Club Volleyball
Advanced skill development with experienced coaches
More touches on the ball through consistent practices
Competitive tournament experience
Preparation for middle school, high school, and collegiate volleyball
College exposure opportunities for athletes pursuing the next level
Development of leadership, accountability, communication, grit, and confidence
Whether an athlete dreams of playing in college or simply wants to become the best player they can be, club volleyball provides an environment that challenges, develops, and inspires.
Why Should My Athlete Play Club Volleyball?
Club volleyball accelerates development by providing more quality instruction, higher-level competition, and consistent training than recreational programs.
Athletes train alongside teammates who share the same drive to improve while receiving individualized coaching in a competitive environment.
Club volleyball helps athletes:
Improve technical skills faster
Gain confidence through competition
Develop volleyball IQ
Prepare for school volleyball and future opportunities
Build lifelong friendships and valuable life skills
While club volleyball requires commitment from both athletes and families, the growth and experiences gained throughout the season are well worth the investment.
TRYOUTS
When Are Tryouts?
Tryouts are held each fall.
10U–14U: October
15U–18U: Shortly after the Louisiana high school volleyball season concludes (typically following the state championships in November)
Athletes who are currently competing for their school team must wait until their season has ended before attending tryouts. However, they should still complete the club's pre-registration during the regular registration period to be considered for placement.
How Are Teams Selected?
Team rosters are intentionally kept small to maximize development and playing opportunities.
Most teams carry 8–11 athletes, depending on the age group and team structure.
Selections are based on a comprehensive evaluation that includes:
Skill level
Athletic ability
Work ethic
Coachability
Communication
Attitude
Competitiveness
Positional needs and overall team balance
Our goal is to place every athlete in the environment where they have the greatest opportunity to grow and succeed.
Will My Athlete Play the Same Position They Play for Their School?
Not necessarily.
At St. Landry Volleyball Club, we believe well-rounded athletes become better volleyball players.
Athletes are encouraged to learn multiple positions, expand their skill sets, and develop a complete understanding of the game. While many players continue in their primary position, coaches may ask athletes to learn additional roles based on team needs and long-term development.
TOURNAMENTS
Where Are Tournaments Held?
Tournament schedules vary by age group and team.
Most teams compete in a combination of:
Local tournaments
Regional tournaments throughout Louisiana
Out-of-state events (for select teams)
Some teams may qualify for or be invited to larger national tournaments. Participation in extended travel events is determined before each season, and additional travel fees may apply.
How Is Playing Time Determined?
Playing time is earned, not guaranteed.
Coaches evaluate several factors when determining playing time, including:
Practice performance
Match performance
Effort and commitment
Team needs
Positional requirements
Coachability
Attitude
Younger age divisions place a greater emphasis on development and game experience, but playing time will still vary based on competition and team needs.
Athletes are encouraged to communicate respectfully with their coach if they have questions regarding their role or playing time.

What Do Club Fees Include?
Club fees help cover the operational costs of the season, including:
Tournament entry fees

My Athlete Is New to Volleyball. Can They Still Join?
Absolutely.
Our younger age divisions, clinics, and camps are designed to introduce athletes to the sport while building strong fundamentals in a positive environment.
Older athletes should have some previous playing experience, but we welcome players who are motivated, coachable, and eager to improve.
